The Range of Carpet Fibers

Wool: Wool carpet is one of the most eco-friendly flooring choices, as it is biodegradable and recyclable. It is naturally stain and soil resistant, making stain protection treatments unnecessary. Wool carpet is hypo-allergenic, crush resistant and noise reducing and, not to mention, extremely comfortable and safe!

Nylon: In overall performance characteristics, nylon is the most versatile of all fibers, offering a variety of carpet styles. It is durable, resilient, and receptive to dyeing for color versatility and uniformity. Many new nylon yarn systems are also exceptionally soft. It is the strongest synthetic fiber, making it an excellent choice for heavy traffic areas, active households or commercial facilities.

SmartStrand: SmartStrand fibers provide permanent stain protection that is literally built into the fiber so it can never wear off. Usually tough stains such as red wine, mustard, coffee and bleach have vanished with nothing more than hot water and a little detergent. Its stain resistance is so good that, for the first time, Mohawk is offering a Limited Lifetime Stain Warranty for SmartStrand products.

Polyester: Polyester is a budget friendly synthetic carpet option. It is a great choice for a guest room or a study, a growing child’s room, or for a student apartment, as it is ideal for areas of low foot traffic or quick turn around. Available in a variety of weaves and a broad spectrum of colors, polyester can offer heavy, soft-textured carpets that feel cozy and lush underfoot, while maintaining vibrant color intensity.

For environmentally conscious polyester options, ask about P.E.T., which is made from recycled plastic bottles.

Olefin (Polypropylene): Polypropylene is a great carpet choice for areas exposed to intense sunlight, as the color will not fade. It is often used for outdoor carpets and is ideal in damp basements, as it dries quickly after getting wet
